Our Mission
The State Street Academy of Music is community-based, operating in the tradition of the “settlement schools” started in the late 19th century as arts programs offered by urban settlement houses and neighborhood centers.
Our mission is:
To offer an intensive music education program for all greater Harrisburg-area children and teens from grade 1 through grade 12, including those at risk and the disadvantaged;
To provide instruction in a full range of musical activities, including instrument lessons, performing ensembles, music theory, and music history;
To introduce younger students to the wonders and joys of music, help them develop their talent and open doors for them to new opportunities in education and life; and,
To provide high-quality music instruction for those older students who have shown promise in the field of classical music and are interested in going “a step further” by building on what they are learning in their school or other music programs.
